For 3-5 year olds:

Starfall

What we like most about the website above is that a young child can maneuver through the site themselves.  There are a few letters/sounds that aren’t exactly how we would do it, but as a free/basic computer game it does its job!

For children 5 years and older:

Super Duper Inc and Linguisystems

These sites offer a variety of games/books for around $20/each.  Our personal favorite is Barnaby’s Burrow.  This game is particularly helpful in learning how to follow directions.

By the way, we recommend progressing from 1 step to 2 step and 2 step to 3 step very slowly.  It is important not to overload the child!  Put them in a situation where they will likely be correct 90% of the time.  Frustration appears to be less character building for young children when compared to competitive adults.
